contemplative Philosophy

We hold a monthly Philosophy discussion group. Each month, we read and discuss a philosophical text and try to understand its relevance, both to its own time and to ours. We also attempt to see how these philosophical texts inform our own social and spiritual lives.

We hope to study many texts, but some of our areas of focus are: Plato/Socrates, the Stoics, Dogen, Nagarjuna, Nietzsche, Jung, and contemplative Judaism and Christianity, among others.

The meetings open with a short meditation followed by a discussion of the text and reading of selected passages.

Great books reading group

We hold a monthly book group where we will read and discuss one of the books from the “Great Books” list (link below). These are works of classic literature which have shaped Western thought and have tried to answer the most profound and challenging questions regarding the human experience.

Ambient vinyl listening party

Each month, we hold an ambient vinyl listening party. These nights are meant to be a relaxing evening to come together, get to know each other over food & drinks, and enjoy great albums. We welcome recommendations from various genres, provided that albums are in the contemplative vein.
